Meet your new teacher...

Marcelo Rivero is an award winning teacher and performer specializing in Salsa and Argentine Tango for both social dancing and competitive exhibitions.

Marcelo is known not only for his smooth and elegant dancing, but also for being a very patient teacher and his ability to tell a story with his choreography. He has performed with both student and professional partners over the years.

Marcelo's History in Dance

His expertise brought him opportunities to be involved in movies and TV shows. He was in dance related scenes in "Antwon Fisher" working on set with Denzel Washington and on the show "Ugly Betty" working on set with Selma Hayek. But that was not his true calling.

He first started as a break dancer in the 80's, then was a DJ in the 90's. He had a passion to create and play music for others to dance to, back when records and cassette tapes where the norm. When the DJ'ing stopped, he had a creative void to fill. Many of the popular ballroom dances did not interest him until Salsa got his attention. Within three years, he started teaching and then competing a few years after that.

Then in 2001, he was inspired by the film "The Tango Lesson" and began learning in the general OC/LA areas and continued on to attend Carlos Copelo's Tango Academy in Buenos Aires. Some of his mentors include internationally known Carlos Gavito, Pablo Veron and Gabriel Mise.

Marcelo discovered he had the ability to teach and break down moves, so that people understood not only steps but how body mechanics work as well as how to communicate non verbally. And because of that they were able to learn more effectively and less confusion that many teachers don't end up agreeing. He had found his passion and became a respectable teacher and coach. He decided to invest more money and time and put more effort to train with mentors to improve how to teach and train other people. As a result of refining his craft, in 2012, he was voted favorite male instructor of the year for the Orange County/Los Angeles area. And has led to win 1st to 3rd place in several local Pro/Am competitions and exhibition performances with his students.
